The people in the Essential Formulas booth took the time to explain the multi-year fermentation process that is unique to Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics. Although I was familiar with the category in general, I had never come across a probiotic that was produced this way.

Although it all sounded very interesting, I basically said, “I’m a science-based guy. You’ve gotta show me some research that documents your claims.” Well, they loaded me up with a stack of literature with articles, studies, and a book written by Dr. Ohhira on lactic acid bacteria.

On my transcontinental flight home from Florida to California, I devoured the literature Essential Formulas had given me and I soon realized that the fermentation process that Dr. Ohhira developed results in a product that is unique, and superior to other commercial probiotic products. From that point on, I started taking Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics myself, recommending them to clients, and teaching about them in my seminars for health professionals.

Over the past decade, we’ve learned that Dr. Ohhira’s multi-year fermentation process results in a final product that contains over 500 postbiotic metabolites. In June 2019, I wrote a paper titled Postbiotic Metabolites: The New Frontier in Microbiome Science, which was published in the Townsend Letter. This is the first time an article was published in the medical literature with the term Postbiotic Metabolites in the title. I’m proud to be playing a key role in educating the world about the important role that postbiotic metabolites play in regulating the health of the gut microbiome, the immune system, and overall health.
