In a recent book titled The Mind-Gut Connection (HarperCollins, 2016), Emeran Mayer, MD provides a wealth of information about probiotics and the Microbiome. Dr. Mayer is a pioneer and world leader in the areas of probiotics, the Microbiome and brain-gut interactions. He is co-director of the Digestive Disease Research Center at the University of California Los Angeles, director of the Oppenheimer Center for Stress and Resilience, and the National Institute of Health (NIH) has supported his research for the past 25 years.

In The Mind-Gut Connection, Dr. Mayer provides some important information that provides a deeper understanding of probiotics and friendly flora, which corroborates the effectiveness and uniqueness of Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics®. On page 25, Dr. Mayer makes the following statement:

“The well-being of your gut microbes depends on the food you eat, and they are more or less programmed in their food preferences during the first few years in life. However, regardless of their original programming, they can digest virtually everything you feed them, regardless of whether you’re an omnivore or a pescatarian. No matter what you feed them, they will use their enormous amount of information stored in their millions of genes to transform partially digested food into hundreds of thousands of metabolites.”

So how does that relate to Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics®? Let’s take a look at each of the components found in this supplement:

Prebiotic Foods: Prebiotics are healthy plants that cultivate the existing good bacteria in your gut. They act as nourishment for the probiotic strains already in your system. In the quote above, Dr. Mayer is emphasizing that the health of your probiotic bacteria and the health of your microbiome, depends on the food you feed them. Provide them with a healthy diet consisting of a wide range of high-fiber containing foods (especially fresh vegetables) and they will be healthy and work to keep you healthy. Provide them with high fat, high sugar, highly processed food and you will encourage the growth of bacteria that can make you sick and contribute to a wide range of diseases. That’s why Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics® contains prebiotic foods including naturally fermented vegetables, fruits, seaweed, and mushrooms which nourish your existing probiotic strains. *

Live Probiotics: Of course, no probiotic supplement would be complete without… the probiotics themselves! Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics® contain 12 live probiotic strains that are delivered to your GI tract in acid-resistant vegetable capsules. They are produced in a multi-year natural-temperature fermentation process in which a wide range of healthfully grown foods are provided as the prebiotic food supply to encourage the growth of happy healthy probiotic bacteria. *

Postbiotic™* Metabolites:

The reason probiotic bacteria are important is because of what they produce. They are little manufacturing factories and their metabolic activities result in the production of a vast number of beneficial compounds that we now refer to as postbiotic* metabolites. So Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics also contain Postbiotics™. These include amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and natural organic acids that are produced or optimized by the probiotic fermentation process. *

Bad bacteria can also produce compounds, and the metabolites from bad bacteria cause health challenges. It now appears that postbiotic metabolites can also influence moods and emotions resulting in anxiety and depression. It’s actually quite simple:

good food = good bacteria = produce good compounds = good health
bad food = bad bacteria = produce bad compounds = bad health

Hundreds of thousands of metabolites:

I want to repeat part of Dr. Mayer’s comment from above: “they (your probiotic bacteria) will use their enormous amount of information stored in their millions of genes to transform partially digested food into hundreds of thousands of metabolites.”

Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics® are produced in a multi-year fermentation process that:
1.) Utilizes multiple strains of probiotic bacteria.
2.) As well as a wide range of fiber-rich, healthfully grown foods (no pesticides, herbicides or artificial fertilizers) that supports the probiotics’ growth and metabolism.*
3.) Thus, when Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics are encapsulated, the probiotic bacteria have already been working for years producing a multitude of beneficial postbiotic™* metabolites that are essential for a healthy microbiome and which help regulate and promote health throughout your body.*

Discover The Dr. Ohhira Difference!™

Most commercial probiotic products just contain probiotic bacteria in a suspended state of inactivity. Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics® are the equivalent of three products in one. They contain probiotic bacteria, prebiotic foods which nourish and support the probiotic bacteria, and most importantly, Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics® contain a multitude of postbiotic™* metabolites that the bacteria have been producing during several years of fermentation.

No other probiotic product provides
a multitude of postbiotic™* metabolites.
That’s what makes Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics® unique.
That’s The Dr. Ohhira Difference!
