Skin Dysbiosis: Complaints and The Postbiotic Metabolites Effect

Dysbiosis, (which is also called dysbacteriosis), is a term that indicates an imbalance of bacteria in or on the body. While dysbiosis most commonly refers to a microbial imbalance in the intestinal (GI) tract, it can also denote an imbalance of bacteria on the skin, known as skin dysbiosis. The gut microbiome is frequently altered in people with skin conditions. Studies have confirmed that skin dysbiosis is present in skin irregularities such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, rosacea, acne vulgaris, eczema, and dandruff.

In June 2019, Essential Formulas’ Director of Science Ross Pelton wrote a paper titled Postbiotic Metabolites: The New Frontier in Microbiome Science that was published in the Townsend Letter. This is the first time a paper ever appeared in the scientific literature with the term postbiotic metabolites in the title. In January 2023, Pelton’ wrote a follow-up paper titled The Microbiome Theory of Aging (MTA), that was published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Integrative Medicine: A Clinician’s Journal (IMJC). The publication of these two landmark papers has resulted in Dr. Ross Pelton and Essential Formulas, Inc. becoming leaders in the effort to educate the world about the importance of postbiotic metabolites and the human gut microbiome.
