In his role as Director of Science & Education, Ross’s days are filled with exploration and discovery. He spends hours reviewing the latest scientific literature and medical publications related to the gut microbiome, probiotics, and EFI products. His research isn’t just academic—it directly shapes the educational tools he develops, from training presentations to conference lectures. “Although I don’t make slides every day,” Ross explains, “a significant amount of my time is dedicated to creating visual ‘tools’ that help explain the science in engaging and understandable ways.”

What Ross appreciates most about his work with EFI is the opportunity to merge his varied passions: science, health—particularly anti-aging and regenerative medicine—and teaching. This role allows him not only to deepen his understanding but also to empower others with knowledge.

Ross is especially proud of two milestones in his career with EFI:

• Building the Story of the Microbiome: Currently, he’s preparing a 90-minute presentation for the 2025 SOHO Expo in Orlando. This ambitious project integrates the science of probiotics, prebiotics, postbiotic metabolites, and the Microbiome Theory of Aging into one cohesive narrative.

• Pioneering Postbiotic Research: In 2019, Ross published a landmark article in the medical journal Townsend Letter, making history as the first to use the phrase postbiotic metabolites in a scientific title. His ongoing contributions continue to shape global understanding of microbiome health.

Over the years, Ross has published numerous papers in respected journals on topics ranging from microbiome-nourishing nutrition to the glutathione theory of aging, further underscoring his role as a thought leader in the field.

   

Beyond the Lab

Unique life experiences have also shaped Ross’s career path. From 1971 to 1974, he served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Malaysia, teaching high school chemistry entirely in the Malay language. With no textbooks available, he created his lesson plans and materials—a challenge that strengthened his skills as both a teacher and a communicator.

Outside of work, Ross keeps himself mentally and physically energized. He’s an avid reader, an active member of his men’s book club, and a dedicated fitness enthusiast who regularly trains at his local YMCA with a mix of weightlifting and spin classes.
