Although Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is now getting used to royal tours abroad packed full of official engagements, she’s actually no stranger to travelling all over the world.
Before meeting Harry, the Duchess was an avid fan of flying to all sorts of far-flung destinations.
And although her luxury holidays with friends are a bit different to the travel she’s doing with her husband now, she still appears to be an expert at handling the more gruelling nature of long-haul trips across the world.
Of course, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently in the midst of their 16-day-tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand – no mean feat, considering Meghan is currently around 3/4 months pregnant.
But in a newly resurfaced blog post from her old lifestyle blog, The Tig, Meghan Markle gave an interesting insight in to how she may be coping with the intense schedule of back-to-back engagements, and the constant flying.
She shared some handy tips with her readers back in the day, revealing the products and travel hacks she relies on to keep her feeling her best whilst jetting around the globe.
First of all, Meghan revealed that she always packs a bottle of hand sanitizer when flying, which is probably an even more sensible option now that she’s expecting.
She wrote, “I’m no germophobe, but when I get on a plane I always use some quick hand wipes or a travel sanitizer spray to wipe it all down. That includes the little TV, the service tray, and all the buttons around your seat.”
And in fact, the Duchess even picked up a very handy tip from one particular, A-list star.
Meghan revealed how, “A dear friend of mine once told me that Leonardo DiCaprio gave her an excellent travel tip. Evidently, he said that to avoid getting sick on planes, he puts a little Neosporin on a cotton swab and coats the inside of his nostrils.
“Not only does it create a barrier for germs, it also lubricates the skin in the nose. That’s important because when the skin cracks, germs can come a running in, so the coating of the Neosporin doubly protects you.”
And to further avoid any potential bugs, Meghan revealed that she always travels with a “high-strain probiotic”, recommending Dr. Ohhira’s Complete Probiotic System to her fans.
So perhaps that’s how Meghan is making sure she’s staying in tip-top shape for her tour Down Under?
When you’re travelling, home comforts and feeling settled are important to all of us. And for the Duchess of Sussex, a well-worn scarf is key to helping her feel cosy.
In the old blog post, she shared, “This has become invaluable to me when catching some Zzzzzs on a flight, or feeling swaddled in a hotel room,”
“Throw it in your purse or backpack, and no matter how far you travel, you will always feel comforted both on and off the plane with something that feels and smells like home.”
Lastly, Meghan revealed a trick that is no doubt proving very helpful when it comes to tackling jet lag in Australia.
She revealed that her close friend, designer Misha Nonoo, advised her to follow the meal times of the country you are landing in, rather than following that of the country you’ve just come from.
She explained, “By simply eating a meal at the time the locals are when you land, you trick your brain a bit and stay much more on track, and much less cranky.” We’re sure that’s coming in very handy considering the 10-hour time difference between the UK and Australia!
So it’s really no wonder the Duchess looks so fresh-faced on her Aus tour with Prince Harry – it’s clear that she’s well versed in coping with tiring travel schedules.
